Arctotis revoluta long stamens on the disc

Arctotis revoluta long stamens on the disc

Erect and angled Arctotis revoluta stamens in the disc florets of the flowerhead in picture have filaments nearly as long as the oblong yellow anthers at their tips.

Not much can be seen of the five corolla lobes of these florets, tiny apart from their stamens. The black disc centre where the florets have not yet opened may still perform, revealing more florets.

The female rays spread and rise in gentle outwards curvature around the arena of the conspicuous male floral parts (Manning, 2007; Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist; http://pza.sanbi.org).
