Arctotis acaulis leaves have scalloped margins on this plant. The scallops may also be differing in size or be angular teeth. The dark green colour of the upper surface suffused with rusty red may also be dull green without red on some plants or in other conditions. The fine hairiness of the upper surface is sometimes nearly invisible to the naked eye.
The about five veins radiating from the centre of the flat or square base of the leaf are typical. The sturdy petioles are flat on top and pale green or reddish in colour. They spread the leaves in a basal tuft or rosette directly from the rootstock (Manning, 2007; http://pza.sanbi.org).
