Agathosma capitata is a dwarf shrublet branching from a single stem to a somewhat rounded shape, around 50 cm in height. The upper stems are sparsely downy. The old, woody ones lower down have lost their leaves and hairs, the bark brownish grey.

The species distribution is on the montane plateau at Piketberg at elevations from 700 m to 1400 m. The photo was taken on the farm Hebron on this plateau.

The plants grow in fynbos in gravelly sandstone derived soils and is locally abundant. The species is considered vulnerable in habitat early in the twenty first century, due to farming on the mountain plateau (Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; JSTOR; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
