Athanasia pubescens flowerheads grow in a corymb, a flat-topped cluster from a stem-tip.

In picture the yellow buds are starting to open along the perimeter of some of the flowerhead discs that are well-spaced on long peduncles. The upper surface of each flowerhead is slightly concave in bud with a greenish central spot visible, an indent where no bud is present.

The inner row of bracts on each flowerhead reaches as high as the buds and curves in.

Flowering happens in spring. The photo was taken in September (Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
