    The long peduncles of the Athanasia pubescens flowerheads angle out from near the stem-tip, the outer ones growing longer, presenting the heads in about one horizontal plane or flat-topped. There is a leaf or bract below each peduncle.

    The involucral bracts visible on the bases of the heads (at the top of the picture) are much smaller than the leaves. These floral bracts are broad-based and triangular, tapering to acutely pointed tips.

    The stem-tip on the side in picture is covered in very short hairs, as are all visible plant parts (Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
