This Aizoon-like mesemb found flowering in the Biedouw Valley during September would have to be Aizoon paniculatum on account of its flower colour, if it is an Aizoon at all.
The flower and leaf differences cause problems for presenting this plant as A. paniculatum, so the enigmatic perennials interesting features are presented without offering a specific name. Hopefully new knowledge will later allow for an improved presentation and proper identification.
The soft, much-branched plant sprawls low and wide on a sandy, stony slope in the open, sufficiently spreading for spring annuals to grow through the gaps in its foliage. The bold, intruding flowerheads are yellow among the numerous pink-purple ones of the plant described in the following entries (Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; iNaturalist).
