Asparagus striatus young plant

The main stem of this young Asparagus striatus plant is erect and fairly straight, smooth and coloured as the small branches.

The drought-resistant plant is only browsed when alternative fodder becomes scarce.

The photo was taken near Calitzdorp during September (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Shearing and Van Heerden, 2008; iNaturalist).
