The nearly circular to obovate leaves of Adromischus hemisphaericus are succulent and disc-shaped, variable in thickness. The tips are rounded, flattened or obtusely pointed. The smooth blade surfaces may be maroon speckled, often more in their upper parts, although many plants bear spotless grey-green, yellow-green, blue-green or silvery leaves.

On these Kirstenbosch residents, the leaf markings are faint or absent. Leaves are the hallmark of the appeal of this genus as the flowers are small.

The flowers grow on slender, erect stems. They have pink, fused petal lobes at the ends of green tubes, growing in a small spike. Flowering happens from before midspring to early autumn (Curtis-Scott, et al, 2020; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk).
