This plant photographed in the Caledon Wildflower Garden had a sturdy flower stem, but unfortunately the last flowers were gone by October; new ones expected soon in summer. The stem has dark blotching along its surface like the leaves.
Some pretty leaf colouring was on view in the absence of flowers. Maroon spots varying in size and shape are scattered unevenly along the leaf surfaces, giving the plant allure also in its off-season. The paired leaves have slight inward curvature (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984).
