The buds of Cyphia digitata in picture sport a saxophone-like curve of the corolla tube. The calyx is short, way back at the base and pointedly lobed.
The pale green and purplish colouring on the outside of the corolla is not repeated on the inside surface of open flowers. The conspicuous midribs of the leaf lobes are visible, recessed on the upper surfaces, prominent below. The sparse and minimal leaflet margin toothing can also be seen (Manning, 2009; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010).
