The jointed, melon-shaped Curio articulatus stem bodies are colour-versatile with semi-repetitious artistry in their surface designs.

Often living among rocks, the colours and shapes raise questions as to possibilities of aesthetic sense in the various sentient beings found in the veld (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Moriarty, 1997; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
