The thinly succulent leaves of Cleretum maughanii initially form a basal rosette, later dispersed along the stems when they develop.
The leaf-shape is obovate, tapering into long petioles or merely narrowed basal sections. The leaf-tips are variably rounded or pointed. The midrib is usually sunken on the upper surface, although not clearly delineated and boldly ridged below. The margins are rolled under.
The pale green to bright green, sometimes red-tinted blades are covered in glistening water cells. The fleshy, pale flower stalks are also covered in water cells, maybe also in hairs.
The youngest flowers in picture have pale yellow petals or only yellow tips (Smith, et al, 1998; Manning and Goldblatt, 1997; iNaturalist).
