Calobota sericea inflorescences grow elongated at stem-tips. The Afrikaans common name, jakkalsstertganna (jackal tail ganna), refers to the shape of the stem-tips of this ganna bearing long inflorescences.
Ganna or kanna is an ancient Khoi name for several shrubs of the southern and western parts of South Africa. Some of them were used in making soap.
The jakkalsstertganna can be quite grey apart from the yellow corollas of its flowers (Manning, 2007; iNaturalist).
