The hiccup nut or hikklimop (Afrikaans) is a small coastal tree that sometimes scrambles into and over the trees growing around it. It is mainly found in KwaZulu-Natal.

The attractiveness of the orange (or sometimes red) spring flowers lies mainly in the protruding inner flower parts, the stamens and style.
