Crassula pubescens subsp. pubescens small plant, many flowers

A Crassula pubescens subsp. pubescens plant in flower can be a delicate structure, although heroic, even when it does not achieve a size anywhere near the recorded height for its species of 30 cm.

The roots mainly searching for moisture and other nourishment in the soil, have a significant anchoring obligation as well. They keep the mast-like, erect inflorescence in position for the duration of its less than annual cycle.

This is the only one of the three subspecies of C. pubescens found in both the Western Cape and the Eastern Cape. The other two only live in the latter province (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; iNaturalist).
