Crassula tecta, sometimes called akkedisvel (lizard skin) in Afrikaans, is a low-growing, grey or grey-green leaf succulent. The branched leafy clusters are tufted, usually no taller than 5 cm. When a flower stalk is present, double that height may be reached.
The species occurs in the Western Cape from Worcester to the Little Karoo and further to Steytlerville in the Eastern Cape Karoo, also southwards through Baviaanskloof to the Langkloof.
The plant grows in shallow, gravelly soils in varied, arid and semi-arid vegetation types. It is reasonably abundant in the veld, the habitat population deemed of least concern early in the twenty first century (Euston-Brown and Kruger, 2023; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Moriarty, 1997; iNaturalist; www.plantzafrica.com; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
