Othonna dentata daisies in your face

Othonna dentata yellow daisy flowerheads face the sun from positions well above the pale foliage below. Their elevation serves a purpose relating to prospects of being pollinated rather than for facilitating sunbathing.

Up to ten fertile ray florets are present on the perimeter of these flowerheads, although the disc seems the place to be if you are a prospecting nectar consumer and thus inevitably a prospective pollinator.

O. dentata flowerheads become about 2 cm in diameter, although measurement is not always straightforward as the ray tips soon start curving back, no longer doing justice to the size a flowerhead attains.

The leaves below the flowerheads ascend and curve in slightly around the flower stalks. Leaf midribs are white and conspicuous in the lower half of the leaf (Mustart, et al, 1997; Bean and Johns, 2005; Burman, 1985).
