Othonna dentata ascending leaves

The leaves of this Othonna dentata plant growing at Kleinmond are differently toothed to those seen at Vermont and De Hoop: The toothing is unevenly spaced and irregular in size, but sharply pointed, appearing ragged.

At Vermont the margins were smooth, while at De Hoop they were red and sparsely, coarsely toothed. On samples of one plant each per site, it is, of course, impossible to deduce anything regarding regional differences, but something to look out for.

Inclined towards sharpness, this plant even has a couple of spiny growths upon some flower stalks.

The picture was taken early in the flowering season, in June. Flowering may happen at any time or all the time from end autumn to early summer (Mustart, et al, 1997; Bean and Johns, 2005; Burman, 1985).
