Othonna lobata leaves

The leaves of Othonna lobata are simple, slightly fleshy and grey-green or blue-green in colour. The leaf shape is elliptic or obovate.

As the specific name indicates, the leaf margins are lobed, often irregularly and variably so. Some of the lobes in picture are mucronate, i.e. they have tiny spine-like protrusions upon obtusely pointed tips; the leaves thus also sometimes toothed, although sparingly.

The whitish leaf midrib is thick and conspicuous near its base, reducing but remaining visible to the leaf tip or nearly there. Slightly meandering lateral veins, of which some are branched, are also visible in the photo, as well as parts of the net-veining.

Leaves may become 4 cm long and 1,5 cm wide (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010).
