Ochna natalitia leaves

The leaves of Ochna natalitia are oblong to elliptic, tapering to rounded at base and tip. When growing to tree size in forests, the leaves are larger and taper more than those of the rocky outcrop shrub form. Leaf dimensions are from 3 cm to 13 cm long and from 1 cm to 3 cm wide.

The leaf surfaces are leathery, the lateral veins numerous, closely spaced together and yellowish as the prominent midrib. The margins are finely serrated.

Young leaves contributing to the tree being the showy ochna are coppery red, later green and hairless (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Van Wyk and Van Wyk, 1997; iNaturalist).
