Osteospermum acanthospermum flowerhead

The flowerheads of Osteospermum acanthospermum grow at the tips of small side-branches and from leaf axils. Both the single whorl of elliptic to obovate ray florets and the central, small disc comprising a dense cluster of small florets are pale yellow. The female ray floret stigma branches are visible around the perimeter of the disc. The five-lobed disc florets are male.

Flowering happens late in winter and early in spring. The photo was taken early in August (Manning and Goldblatt, 1997; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
