    The new Osteospermum amplectens stem is reddish brown as its host and covered in whitish hairs, more densely when young. The new stem is shielded by the basal lobes of the sessile leaf providing the axil from which it has emerged.

    Leaf midribs are conspicuous in the lower halves of the leaves, on both surfaces. The toothing along the margins becomes more prominent as the leaves mature (Le Roux, et al, 2005; JSTOR; iNaturalist).
