Moraea schlechteri flower

The mainly pale-yellow flower of Moraea schlechteri has tepals more oblanceolate than oblong, the tepals broadening in their upper parts before reaching the rounded, sometimes squarely truncated tips.

The inner three tepals of the flower in picture are narrower than the outer ones; all have greenish, rigid midribs from which the lateral blade parts sag slightly. The tepal blades are paler near the tips, deeper yellow at the base. The tepals spread radially symmetrical around the flower centre, reaching a diameter of about 3,5 cm.

Flowering happens from before midwinter to early spring. The photo was taken in August (Le Roux, et al, 2005; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; iNaturalist).
