Moraea nana flower

The flower of Moraea nana is radially symmetrical (actinomorphic), the six tepals spreading widely. The inner three are marginally smaller while roughly similar in shape as the outer ones.

Somewhat spathulate or spoon-shaped, the tepals broaden in angular fashion near their tips, the angles (including at the tip) rounded. This shape is not rigorously maintained, neither between plants, nor within the same flower.

The yellow flower colouring may vary in brightness among M. nana plants. Darker patches or finely variable nectar guide markings may be present near the tepal bases, usually darker on the outer tepals or only present there.

The spreading style branches are long, straight and thread-like, the stigmas positioned on the small curving crests at the tips (Manning and Goldblatt, 1997; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; iNaturalist).
