The trifoliolate leaves of Oxalis ciliaris var. ciliaris grow mainly from the stem-tip on hairy petioles that are sometimes long, but no petiolules are present on the leaflets.

The leaflets are elliptic to linear, in picture with notched tips. Leaflet width varies considerably. They fold in along their midribs that are hairy below. The leaflet margins are hair-fringed (ciliate), earning the plant its species (and variety) name. The blades are slightly uneven. The central leaflet is about 10 mm long, usually the longest (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; iNaturalist; www.worldfloraonline.org).
