Oxalis punctata, in Afrikaans commonly known as kleinblaarsuring (small leaf sorrel), is a perennial, a geophytic dwarf sorrel that reaches 8 cm when flowering.
The plant, a Western and Eastern Cape endemic, grows from the Cape Peninsula to around Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), crossing the coastal mountain ranges into the Little Karoo, maybe elsewhere as well. This one was photographed on a rocky slope southwest of Oudtshoorn.
The habitat is lowlands among varied vegetation in clay soils, not in fynbos. The species is not considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iSpot; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
