The paired upper petals of the Pelargonium ionidiflorum flower are together near the base, veering apart higher up. The markings upon their lower, central parts are in two shades of dark red and some white. The lower three petals angled forward are unmarked, narrow and long, widest near their tips.

Two pale orange-brown, globular anthers on short filaments are visible near the corolla base (http://opus.sanbi.org).
