A slender, erect, young Pelargonium karooicum plant still does not display the broadly ovate lobed leaves seen on mature plants. The lobes are channelled and apart from bigger lobes starting lower, there are already fine lobing at the tips that may be regarded as toothing.

The lower stem is maroon and finely hairy. Some stems remain whitish, becoming grey with age (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; iNaturalist).
