Pelargonium triste leaf

The fine leaflet divisions are visible on this bright green leaf of Pelargonium triste, probably a young one; the older ones tend to blue-green. The leaflet segments are twice or thrice-divided. Leaf-shape reminds of carrot leaves.

The sturdy leaf stalk is strong, but presents its hairy leaflet load on the ground or only slightly above. Leaf stalks emerge from the ground as very little stem is found on this plant. Leaves on the flowering stalks are much smaller than the basal ones.

The photo was taken in October (Manning, 2007; www.plantzafrica.com).
