Pelargonium reniforme umbel

This few-flowered umbel of Pelargonium reniforme still has buds to open later. The dark, purple styles of the open flowers spread their five stigma branches. They are more conspicuous in the photo than the stamens. There may be six or seven fertile stamens in a P. reniforme flower.

The upper sepals of some of the flowers are visible, erect behind the pair of upper petals. The upper sepal of a Pelargonium flower forms a hollow spur joined to the top of the pedicel. The other sepals recurve in the photo (Gledhill, 1981; www.plantzafrica.com).
