Pelargonium carnosum subsp. carnosum flower

Close-up, a Pelargonium carnosum subsp. carnosum flower may present a dramatic sight, although only about 15 mm in diameter.

White to pale pink petals spread widely, the upper pair bigger and marked purple. The lower three are unmarked and narrower. Contrasting purplish colouring is stronger on the straight style and stamens that jut far forward and twist near their ends. The large black anthers on the upturned ends of the filaments may also be reddish, brown or orange, depending on the development stage of the pollen. The style ends in short stigma branches.

Flowers may be all-over paler that the one seen here (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; iNaturalist; iSpot).
