    The small Pelargonium curviandrum leaf rosette supports a large flower stalk, all of it quite hairy. There are no stem leaves on the dark, erect stalk in picture.

    This is one of the species that has a resource of stored supplies in a subterranean rootstock, not that dependent on the short-term facilities like the leaves. Leaves may not even be present or green when the blooms appear. There is a considerable age range in the leaves in picture (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; iNaturalist).
