Pegolettia baccaridifolia flowerhead

The Pegolettia baccaridifolia flowerhead has three to four rows of involucral bracts, forming the outer cylindrical cup. The lowermost bracts in picture veer away from the base of the longish cup. The upper ones assume the pale-yellow colouring of the tubular disc florets they support.

Once stamens and branched styles are exserted from the open florets, the flowerhead appears proudly unkempt, as is common among many youthful heads among people (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; iNaturalist).
