Pegolettia retrofracta flowerheads grow at stem tips, becoming 5 mm in diameter. They are yellow and comprise disc florets only. Each floret has five lobes that recurve. The outer ones open first. There are narrow, hairy, green bracts around the flowerhead, arranged in about three sparse rows.

Flowering happens whenever there has been sufficient rain. This plant was seen well after its last blooming phase, just the spread involucral bracts that subtended the flowerhead still present (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; iSpot).
