Well-covered in flowers but not on all branches, this Podalyria calyptrata bush is living the joys of spring without a care in the world. Bloomtime commences late in winter, continuing until after midspring. The celebration is augmented by a sweet-scented fragrance shared quite far around the plant.

Pollinators responding are not disappointed in the amounts of nectar produced. No wonder bees are such busy creatures. But there are various other contributors not to be forgotten. Spend time next to a tree or bush like this at bloomtime, and you’re sure to meet some of them. But careful, some sting (Manning, 2009; Coates Palgrave, 2002; iNaturalist; https://pza.sanbi.org).
