The flowers of Polygala virgata var. virgata drooping from this arching branch have long pedicels. Pinkish purple as well as other colours appearing on the finely hairy pedicel surfaces.
The large lateral sepals, streaked with dark veins, are the dominant flower parts visible at this stage of flowering. Here the outer sepals, small and green with pink margins, are partly covered by the inner sepals; a temporary role reversal? Together they conceal the lateral petals as well as the (later to be dominant) lower keeled petal, now still hidden inside the flower. The small lateral petals are unlobed in this species.
The flowers become 1 cm to 1,5 cm in length. Flowers are well spaced in the slender racemes, often branching into large panicles (Manning, 2009).
