Leaves are sometimes largely absent from Polygala virgata plants although they may be perfectly healthy and flowering. This P. virgata var. virgata plant photographed in October in the Caledon Wildflower Garden, however, has many leaves.
The leaves are narrowly elliptic to oblong and indented along their midribs. The leaf tapers to its base and is variably rounded at its blunt tip. Leaf surfaces are slightly shiny here, dark green and hairless. Leaf margins are entire, the petioles short (Manning, 2009).
