Only one of the florets of the Pteronia onobromoides flowerhead is open here, flowering on the perimeter of the disc. All five the oblong, point-tipped corolla lobes spread and recurve slightly. The insides of these petals are a lighter, brighter yellow than the bud tips next to it that display the corolla outsides, waiting to open. The whitish hairs erect among some buds must be growing from the outside surfaces of the corolla tubes of the disc florets.
In the upper background, some yellow style branches are visible, exserted far, not yet the case in the young floret lower down.
There is a velvety white covering present on the leaves in picture (Hulley, et al, 2010: Ethnobotany, leaf anatomy, essential oil composition and antibacterial activity of Pteronia onobromoides (Asteraceae). SA Journal of Botany 76(1):43-48; Le Roux, et al, 2005; Manning and Goldblatt, 1996; JSTOR; iNaturalist).
