Pachypodium succulentum flowering white

This white-flowering form of Pachypodium succulentum was photographed in April near Daniëlskuil, south of Kuruman in the Northern Cape. The five petals are obovate in shape, wider near the tips and narrow at the flower mouth, above the notably long corolla tube that looks lemon green inside.

The pink central lines on the petal lobes seen on other forms of the flower may be more regularly associated with the southern parts of the plant’s distribution, e.g. the Karoo and Little Karoo.

The rounded leaf tips (and rounded leaf surface), with their marked central whitish lines along the midribs can be clearly discerned, as can the pale pink outer surface of an unopened bud (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015).
