Senegalia caffra bark

Senegalia caffra, previously A. caffra bark is grey-brown, longitudinally fissured, cracked or flaking and displays a history of the many events of growing and losing branches and diverse other events of its past (SA Tree List No. 162).  

S. caffra may become a big tree with stout trunk that has lots to tell its visitors! The Zulus are said to have a traditional remedy used for blood cleansing made from an infusion of this bark. The prickles are small, nearly black and hooked, growing in pairs below the leaf nodes (Coates Palgrave, 2002).
