The open Rhigozum obovatum flower has spread its lobes, shaped like jigsaw puzzle pieces around the flower mouth. The bilobed, oblong anthers catch the sun over the corolla, protruding outside it. Fine hairs are visible along the corolla lobe margins.
Ragged maroon lines up the throat of the corolla surround the pale filaments and style. These lines do not appear to be present on all flowers of this species. The photo was taken in April north of the Swartberge (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010).
