Seen in profile, this Strumaria gemmata inflorescence has flowers spreading in a semicircular umbel. The green scape below is thick compared to the individual flower pedicels. A long purplish bract or spathe can be seen at the base of the pedicels.
There were, as is to be expected, no leaves present upon this plant when presenting its April blooms.
The photo was taken on the Minwater farm where visitors are hosted to view many Little Karoo plants and learn about their ecology (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; Wikipedia).
