Salvia disermas leaves

The aromatic leaves of Salvia disermas are opposite, often more plentiful low down on the plant’s multiple stems. The leaf shape is variable, mainly ovate, the margins bluntly toothed, sometimes also lobed. The soft, hairy leaf blades have a rough to quilted texture, the veins conspicuous. Leaf colour is grey-green to dull green.

The leaves exude a sweet fragrance when crushed. They have been used as a tea and some plant parts in traditional medicine (Manning, 2009; Shearing and Van Heerden, 2008; iSpot; http://pza.sanbi.org).
