    The multistemmed Searsia dissecta branches from the base and usually spreads more than growing erect.

    Upper branches are dull maroon to red, darkening with age and thickening as they become woody. The woody lower stems have grey bark that becomes somewhat rough, gnarled in spots. The plant is often only a shrublet or dwarf shrub (Manning and Goldblatt, 1997; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
