The Satyrium coriifolium buds are subtended, but initially also covered by erect, acutely pointed bracts, one bract for every flower.
When the flowers open, these bracts fold down and their tips point down. This exposes the now open and ready flowers to the nectar seeking sunbirds (Curtis-Scott, et al, 2020; Liltved and Johnson, 2012; Manning, 2007; Moriarty, 1997; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
