This thriving colony of Satyrium erectum plants or pienk-trewwas, as they are known among the locals, was seen blooming among the rocks in August. They grow to heights ranging from 11 cm to 56 cm, typically from 20 cm to 42 cm.
One can expect a strong and pleasant scent in the air around such a stand of pienk-trewwas, as they are known for their sweet aroma. Such aromatic gifts are, however, aimed at pollinators, not flower pickers. Beauty created for survival becomes a spin-off benefit to unrelated third parties who have evolved the capacity to appreciate it (Liltved and Johnson, 2012; Manning and Goldblatt, 1997).
