The flat, spreading, starfish-like flowers of Stapelia flavopurpurea grow in small groups on longish peduncles from upper stem parts, facing up. The triangular lobes are coarse from being transversally ridged, bright yellow to greenish in colour. Flower diameter is about 3 cm, sometimes a little more.
The central part of the corolla is round to five-angled and slightly raised in an annulus or ring. This part is white, the hairs upon it sometimes pink-purple, their tips globular. There is a two-tiered corona in the flower centre (White and Sloane, 1937; Frandsen, 2017; iNaturalist; http://www.llifle.com).
