Stapelia flavopurpurea coronas in the flower centre

The corona in the flower centre of Stapelia flavopurpurea consists of the less conspicuous outer corona around the white inner corona. The outer corona comprises five low, curved lobes. Each purple-rimmed, somewhat beaker-shaped lobe widens to its prolonged tip, as if for pouring. These outer corona lobes may contain nectar.

The inner corona has five white, two-horned lobes, the horns cylindrical to laterally flattened. The inner corona is sometimes tinged purple, not on the flower in picture. The inner horn is taller, curving out further, over the top of the shorter, outer one that is flattened on one side (White and Sloane, 1937; Frandsen, 2017; iNaturalist; http://www.llifle.com).
