The leaves of Ruschia macowanii are blue-green, triangular in section and succulent. They are opposite and joined in pairs, forming a sleeve base for the next pair to emerge from.
The flowers that appear in spring have pink petals with a cone-shaped cluster of inner petals, staminodes and stamens in the centre. The opened petals have a delicate dark central line on the upper surface.
The fruit has five chambers that once they are ripe will open when they become wet. The valves have hook-shaped closing bodies (Bean and Johns, 2005; Manning and Goldblatt, 1996).
