Solanum laciniatum, commonly known as kangaroo apple, is an exotic perennial reaching heights from 1 m to 4 m and 5 m wide. It is a soft-wooded shrub without spines, native to the east coast of Australia.
The plant produces two leaf types: larger, lance-shaped ones that are irregularly long-lobed, about 30 cm long and 25 cm wide; the smaller ones are lance-shaped with entire margins, 15 cm long and 4 cm wide. Both leaf types are dark green above, paler below and conspicuously veined.
The young stems are dark green and succulent, turning black and later pale brown with age. The plant is glabrous apart from minute hairs on young leaves and buds (www.flora.sa.gov.au; Wikipedia).
